1-1: Atrium

We'll start off this level with area 1-1 (level 1 - room 1), where parties entering this level via the teleportation portal in the tower's foyer will arrive. We want to establish the theme of this level (STARS!), and quickly give the players a glimpse into the tower's extra-dimensional nature; so let's add a domed ceiling opening the to starry sky. We'll also add a statue of apprentice who controls this level, just to remind the players why they're ostensibly here.

I also like to start a dungeon level already giving players things to come back to, a short to medium term goal. We'll add a tantalizing puzzle that can't be solved yet, an un-openable door covered in stars. And we'll give it to them as a handout so they know the star pattern is important (we telegraph danger, why not telegraph opportunity?). A major theme of this level is going to be collecting constellations and their corresponding glyphs the astromancer uses as notation for them. And just for good measure, we'll have the statue carved holding the magic item hidden behind our mysterious puzzle-door, a magic lantern.

Hopefully this gets our players thinking, and subsequently moving, looking for more clues as to the purpose of these stars, and what the statue & its fancy lantern could portend.
